瑪麗·雪萊於1797年齣生在倫敦，1816年嫁給瞭英國最有名的詩人之一——珀西·伯斯·雪萊。

寫於1818年的《弗蘭肯斯坦：現代的普羅米修斯》是她的一本非常著名的小說。小說的創意是她與丈夫以及朋友拜倫在瑞士度假時産生的。他們三個決定各寫一部恐怖小說，但是隻有她的小說得以最終完成。

1826年她創作瞭《最後一個人》。這是一部關於人類末日的小說：人類因一場瘟疫而滅絕，隻剩下一個人還活著。
