Roy Porter was until his retirement Professor in the Social History of Medicine at the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine. He last book ENLIGHTENMENT won a 2001 Wolfson Prize. Roy Porter died March 3rd 2002.

1. 译者似乎是要给读者制造自己文化水准很高的感觉，使用了大量的成语、并不常见的词语和短句。像是“俱往矣”这种虽然违和但也不算错，“疡医“这种词的大量使用就会使读者产生理解障碍了，而更严重的问题是成语的乱用，除了词不达意以外也有名词性、动词性和形容词性成语混淆...

我的建议是不要读任何题目是《极简xx史》的书，因为“极简”换个说法就是内容过于简单放不下干货。以这本书为例，医学史上许多著名案例，要么一句话带过，要么篇幅限制直接跳过不提，那读者还看什么呢。如果对某个领域有兴趣，即使是想增加谈资，也请老老实实去读大部头，了解...
