學好英文, 閱讀要廣泛。時間有限, 當然要先讀一些好文章。"The Art of the Personal Essay: An Anthology from the Classical Era to the Present"是不錯的選擇。編者Phillip Lopate在美國一所大學裏教授英語, 也從事essay寫作。這本文選從古到今, 從法國到尼日利亞, 收集瞭不少佳作, 歐陽修的《畫舫齋記》("Pleasure Boat Studio")也在其中, 還有魯迅的兩篇文章。美國作傢Gore Vidal一篇迴憶劇作傢Tennessee Williams的文章也被選入, 它就是"Some Memories of the Glorious Bird and an Earlier Self"。
