以前對於中國古代女性受歧視隻是略略知道些，這麼詳盡的描述還是著實讓我震撼瞭一下。 讀著這本小書，仿佛在聽著那個老太太的自白。悔恨怎樣都是無濟於事。怎麼樣能跳齣自我的狹小來反省自己，纔不緻如此不堪的往事。想起那句話，生活裏沒有好人與壞人，有的是做壞事的人和做好事的人。謹記。

說是清朝的故事,可英文寫的,怎麼也看不齣古味兒. 更不用說小姐妹之間裏麵還有親吻擁抱. 不過這是湖南鄉村,而且是瑤族. 雖然也講三從四德,和漢族規矩不一樣也未可知. 讀著還是挺新奇的.

the plot development is a little bit tedious and slow as long as i'm concerned. Alos writing about chinese culture, Amy Tan's books always kept me in suspense and expect. i read about half of this novel, and kept it at that.
