Not every human wants to be an intelligent listener of music.

比较基础，信息量对那些进阶的爱乐者略嫌不够

A clear and concise formal introduction to classical music. The book title might be a little misleading if you're expecting much discussion of the significance of musical contents. Little is present: the author actually shuns that question deliberately. The recommended recordings are truly of choice quality. (The book was bought at Harvard Coop in Cambridge in the fall of 2009 and read in the fall of 2009.)

3.5 Lucid in technical matters. But I can't agree with nearly all his comments on his fellow "contemporary" composers and feel sorry for his elitism in music appreciation

著名音乐家Copland写的音乐欣赏指南。书中对音乐欣赏”三个层次“的论述值得所有喜爱音乐的人认真思考。这大概是音乐欣赏书中最好的了，但就像科普与科学的区别一样，它仍不能替代专业的音乐理论或音乐史书籍。
