安妮·賴斯是美國當代著名的小說傢之一，有“吸血鬼之母”之稱，她1941年齣生在美國新奧爾良，1961年與詩人斯坦·賴斯結為伉儷，1964年獲舊金山州立大學學士學位，1971年獲加州大學碩士學位。她在成名之前做過多種工作：女招待、廚師、引座員等等，經曆十分豐富，為她的寫作奠定瞭充實的基礎。

賴斯的作品以生動描寫恐怖情節而著稱，小說的主題多為曆史背景下人的離群索居及對自我的追求，小說中的人物總是現實社會或非現實社會中孤立的群體。
