英式幽默不动声色，荒诞讽刺，却能让你打心底里乐出来，想来当年能成为Adams身边的朋友一定是件极享受的事。以前并没有意识到这本书对美国geek甚至IT界潜移默化的影响，每每在书里碰到那些如雷贯耳的句子，总有“原来这句话的出处再这里”的恍然大悟。比如: What the photon is it? So long and thanks for all the fish, 还有著名的Forty-two。读得真得很愉快！

道格拉斯·亚当斯（1952—2001），英国作家，毕业于剑桥大学。主要作品就是银河系漫游五部曲。包括《银河系漫游指南》、《宇宙尽头餐馆》、《生命、宇宙及一切》、《再见，谢谢鱼》和《基本无害》。这个系列被西方科幻读者奉为“科幻圣经”之一。由于银河系漫游系列小说的突出成就，国际小行星管理委员会甚至还将一颗小行星命名为阿瑟·邓特——该系列的主人公。

2001年，亚当斯因心脏病猝发离世——此前正在与好莱坞制片商合作，共同将《银河系漫游指南》搬上银幕。2005年4月29日，由迪斯尼公司拍摄的《银河系漫游指南》正式公映。首映周便获得二千一百七十多万美元，成为当周北美票房冠军。
