Is love so small a pain, do you think, for a woman? 歐裏庇得斯的劇本寫得像詩歌一樣美。美狄亞在感情上遭遇的背叛無疑會引起讀者的同情，但她過於殘忍的復仇計劃卻令人厭惡。歐裏庇得斯在這齣經典的麯目中一方麵對女性在古希臘男權社會中飽受壓抑的生活狀況錶示瞭些許同情（堪稱女權主義的先聲），另一方麵又展現瞭美狄亞作為一個流亡在文明世界的野蠻人（美狄亞來自當時的高加索地區，古希臘文明的外圍）在極端狀況下所錶現齣的“野蠻”本性。It seems the "othering" process has been persistent in human civilization from an early stage.
