This extensively illustrated book presents the astrophysics of galaxies since their beginnings in the early Universe. The authors explore the basic properties of stars and the Milky Way before working out towards nearby galaxies and the distant Universe. They discuss the structures of galaxies and how galaxies have developed, and relate this to the evolution of the Universe. The book also examines ways of observing galaxies across the whole electromagnetic spectrum, and explores dark matter and its gravitational pull on matter and light. This book is self-contained and includes several homework problems with hints. It is ideal for advanced undergraduate students in astronomy and astrophysics.

內容排布有點亂，有時會不知所雲；印刷太密，找細節頗費力；缺少直觀的插圖，有點不友善。 優點是內容豐富，講瞭一些經典問題的來龍去脈，以及星係的大體圖景。數學不多，主要講觀測事實，習題還不錯。
评分本科沒好好學瞎弄瞭一遍,這次星係課一個學期來看這本書.隻能用毫無邏輯來形容這本破書.不理解為什麼大傢還在用這本書作為通用教材...
评分星係天文學很詳細地一本書，但是寫得有點亂，讀著很纍，沒有突齣物理圖像，也沒有突齣邏輯之間的聯係，語言有時候很混亂，可能是因為這個鄰域本身就很混亂吧。但是這是星係天文學領域中為數不多的基本教材，將就著用吧。
