Making History is a catalogue of an exhibition held at the Royal Academy from 15th September to the 2nd December 2007. It consists of 15 essays by 15 different authors introducing the exhibition, with an introduction by David Starkey.
The exhibition celebrates the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Society of Antiquaries in 1707, and many of the objects come from the collections of the society. It is particularly strong in engravings and paintings, notably a fine collection of portraits of late Medieval kings, donated to the society in 1829 by the Rev Thomas Kerrich. It also illustrates the development of archaeology over the past 300 years, with an emphasis on Medieval objects and topographical studies. The book is very well illustrated throughout in colour, and is an essential source for those who wish to see how archaeology developed in Britain.
