Phillipa Bowers spent her childhood in the suburbs of London and attended Notting Hill and Ealing High School for Girls. She was employed in a variety of ways, including as a stewardess with both BEA and BOAC,before marrying and raising two sons.
Her childhood dream of becoming an artist was eventually realised when, after attending West Surrey College of Art and Design as a mature student, she earned her living making ceramic sculpture and painting in watercolours.
While residing in Wookey Hole in Somerset she heard the local legend of the wicked who had lived in the nearby caves and believed it to be based on a true story. Then, after moving with her partner Terry Walsh to the north coast of Cornwall, she began writing novels - including a series about the descendants of the wise-women of a small village in Somerset.
