威廉姆.R.美普斯博士（1937-1997），美國傑齣法醫人類學傢，專業領域為法醫骨骼學。美國法醫學會（AAFS）會員，曾任美國法醫人類學委員會（ABFA）主席。
1968年起在西密歇根大學開始教職，1973年進佛羅裏達大學人類學係任教，1978年被任命為佛州自然曆史博物館體質人類學館負責人。自1970年代起，任佛州、紐約州等地醫學檢驗顧問，將其專業知識應用於罪案及交通事故遇難者鑒證。與美國軍方中央鑒定實驗室保持良好閤作關係，擔任“二戰”、韓戰、越南衝突中的失蹤及死亡軍人的身份鑒證工作。對曆史人類學有濃厚興趣，曾參與對西班牙遠徵秘魯徵服者皮紮羅、美國總統紮剋瑞•泰勒、英國“象人”、俄國末代沙皇傢族等曆史知名人物的遺骸鑒證，揭開多個曆史謎團。
在28年的職業生涯裏，美普斯投入激情和科學熱誠處理瞭超過1200件的鑒定案，其卓著成果深受業內贊譽。他曾獲佛羅裏達大學“傑齣貢獻教授”稱號；由他主持創建的C.A.龐德人類鑒定實驗室是世界法醫學界最知名的實驗室之一。
與記者麥剋.C.布朗寜閤作著有《死者在說話》一書。

因為看瞭中文版的 覺得翻譯的非常好 於是找來英文原版看看 真的是沒讓人失望 雖然有醫學術語需要查字典 但作者用詞幽默完全不枯燥 又有深深的人文情懷 看的時候好幾次都想哭齣來 這本和De Profundis真是並列我的最愛啊~~~
