作者：米切尔·史蒂芬斯（Mitchell Stephens），美国纽约大学新闻和大众传播学教授。他著有《图像的兴起，文字的衰落》（The Rise of the Image, the Fall of the Word）（1998）和《广播新闻》（Broadcast News）（2004），编有《报道灾难：广播记者如何报道“9?11”》（Covering Catastrophe: Broadcast Journalists Report September 11）（2002）。史蒂芬斯还为《纽约时报》《华盛顿邮报》《洛杉矶时报》《哥伦比亚新闻评论》等报刊撰写过多篇文章。
