The laws of medieval Iceland (Gragas) are among the earliest examples of a complex legal code, and provide fascinating insight into early European legal systems and society. This first of two volumes of these laws deals with subjects such as the Icelandic Commonwealth's Christian laws, the treatment of homicide, and procedures for the annual general assembly of lawmakers.
