"Folklore of Leicestershire and Rutland" is a comprehensive survey, drawing on a wide range of printed, manuscript and oral material. The topics covered include local legend and lore, ghosts and witchcraft, folk medicine, work and play, sport and fairs, crime and punishment, music, drama and calender customs. Among the many illustrations are documents and prints, archive and recent photographs and over twenty music examples. Roy Palmer (born at Markfield, Leicestershire) was brought up in the county and also lived for a time in Rutland. As well as pursuing a career in teaching he has published many books, including anthologies of and commentaries on traditional song, together with studies of the filklore of several English and Welsh countries. This version is a revised and augmented version of the popular first edition published in 1985. Roy lives in Worcestershire and is a long-standing member of the English Folk Dance and Song Society and the Folklore Society.
