好无聊啊，类似英美近代出版业简史配合阐释一下如何畅销的所谓“时代精神”。唯一值得一提的是榜单和畅销的互动关系，然后许多经典电影剧本都像是从畅销书中捞出来的一样。

畅销书与经典的区别在于：畅销书只大卖于一时一地，而经典则可以常卖而常有人买。畅销书单上能作为经典留下来的少之又少。另，克里斯蒂是有史以来最大的畅销书作家，一辈子卖了20亿册，上畅销书榜仅两次。而最多产的作家一辈子出了600多本小说。

约翰·萨瑟兰，伦敦大学学院现代英语文学荣誉退休教授、加利福尼亚理工学院客座教授，已出版多部专著，内容涉及诸多领域，尤其是维多利亚时期及现代出版史、现代文学和通俗小说。曾任2005年布克小说奖评审委员会主席。

苏耕欣，北京大学英语系副教授，主要研究方向是哥特小说和文化研究。
