Peter Coates is Reader in American and Environmental History at the University of Bristol. He is the author of The Trans-Alaska Pipeline Controversy (1991) and Nature: Western Attitudes Since Ancient Times (1998) and co-author of Environment and History: The Taming of Nature in the USA and South Africa (1995).
