The third edition of a text from the 1960s, this work has been revised and expanded throughout with three new chapters, one on Savonarola, one on Henry More and Ralph Cudworth, and one on Pascal. This authoritative treatment of the theme of scepticism and its historical impact should appeal to scholars and students of early modern history now as much as ever.

totally overrated...much of its esteem came, I guess, from its place-holder function as a single-volume survey of skepticism...if you've actually read all the authors surveyed, Popkin's restatement of them would bore you to death. factually informative though.
