Lohmar’s commentary is not only a discussion of FTL but also a treatise
on many strategic concepts in Husserl, such as constitution, categoriality,
evidence, and temporality. It has many important things to say about other
works, especially EJ. Stylistically and typographically it is almost entirely
Fehlerfrei (but shouldn’t the “pS” on page 152, line 15, be “Sp”?). It also has
the great advantage of an exhaustive and meticulously exact index. There is a
lot of valuable material between these two covers. This is a book that every
scholar in phenomenology will have to own and consult frequently. It will not
be superseded for a very long time. by Robert Sokolowski
