歐斯金·考德威爾，E.，Erskine Caldwell (1903~1987)，美國作傢。生於美國佐治亞州亞特蘭大以南一個山村裏，父親是長老會的牧師。他曾在大學肄業，後來在《亞特蘭大日報》任記者。他的小說大半以美國南方貧苦的白人愚昧、落後、悲慘的生活以及黑人所受的種族迫害為內容，暴露較多，有時有一些自然主義的筆墨。著名的有《煙草路》(1932)、《上帝的小塊土地》(1933)、《七月的風波》(1940)。其中《煙草路》被改編為戲劇，在百老匯上演，賣座多年不衰。他的其他較好的作品有《喬治亞小夥子》(1943)、《高地上的房子》(1946)，短篇小說集《跪在上升的太陽下》(1935)等。

It is the story of the Lesters, a family of white sharecroppers so destitute that most of their creditors have given up on them. Debased by poverty to an elemental state of ignorance and selfishness, the Lesters are preoccupied by their hunger, sexual longings, and fear that they will someday descend to a lower rung on the social ladder than the black families who live near them.
