Public space is a frequent theme in recent writing about cities; scholars describe ways in which urban activities, histories and identities are prescribed, controlled and homogenized. However, in this book, Franck and Stevens explore the concept of 'loose spaces', physical areas that are used in different ways. Recreational, commercial and political activities, from conventional to experimental, are observed taking place in a wide variety of 'loose spaces': alongside the intended uses of planned public spaces, such as pavements and plazas, and in places of former uses, as in vacant car parks and abandoned warehouses. After introducing the concept of 'looseness', the authors explore the idea in four sections: appropriation, tension, resistance and discovery.

跟lost space差不多。
评分非常喜歡的題目，感覺戳中瞭很多記憶和共鳴。但是目前不太清楚如何能成為研究對象，定義、分類、方法都太鬆散太難瞭；甚至不確定所謂的looseness是否僅是一種文化現象，又如何能成為為建築/規劃師所用的方法或標準。也許未來某個階段可以有幸繞迴來這裏

评分很喜歡這本書，能感受到對人和城市最本真關係的探索。但作者對自由的定義似乎過於寬泛瞭，Resistance的部分看完有點哭笑不得……也許這就是東西方觀念的區彆吧。
