It begins with an overview of the evolution of filet stitching techniques from the basic linen stitch to the Filet Richelieu and Asian Guipure styles. There are instructions for 14 modern filet patterns including wedding charms and classic Hardanger embroidered mats, and several other beautiful variations. Nine additional patterns are provided that are based on designs dating to ancient times, such as the Scotch Thistle and Reticella.
