Alex Bernier, an irreverent rookie reporter, lives in the sleepy university town of Gabriel in upstate New York, and writes for the Gabriel Monitor. Until recently, she has lived for quirky headlines, making the best of underwhelming stories about nudist camps and political correctness. But that was before The Story broke - the story that would turn her world upside down and turn the reporter into the reported. When her boyfriend, Adam, is found dead at the bottom of a local gorge, Alex finds herself in the midst of a large-scale investigation conducted by police and journalists alike. Convinced that Adam's death could not have been suicide, Alex begins an investigation of her own, following clues that lead her into the heart of the university and on to a dangerous trail, ultimately to the murderer himself.
