一名正直的记者、一位聪明精神病学家、两位前卫的警探外加一位勇敢的秘书组成了一个神秘的侦探组织，面对作案手法令人发指的连环杀人凶手，血腥的杀人现场、零零星星的案件碎片，更有暗中政治势力的角力。本书作者通过一种很舒畅的方式，如同喝着啤酒听着讨论，如同画面一般欣赏着侦探们的抽丝剥茧，惩治真凶。
评分结尾有些草率，虽然破案过程草蛇灰线，循序渐进，但是并不能引起读者的思考，破案情节我粗浅的感觉有些牵强，个人还是比较喜欢埃勒里奎因的小说，在调动读者思考方面设置的比较公平。也许是我理解力不高，不太能理解拉兹洛的逻辑。
评分和TV版算是互补了，一个人物饱满且具象化，一个对心理侧写过程详尽描写。故事在充满疑虑中戛然而止，其实作者也不知道J.B.到底因何才会做出这样的举动。
