貝塔·哈德（1891-1976）和 埃爾默·哈德（1889-1973）是一對夫婦。他們一生既為兒童畫插畫，也創作故事，到1964年退休，他們一共完成瞭七十多本書。在這些作品裏，最有名的就是這部獲得1949年凱迪剋金奬的作品--《大雪》。
哈德夫婦曾為許多雜誌創作，如好管傢雜誌（Good Housekeeping）的兒童專欄、美開樂雜誌（McCall's）、畫報評論（Pictorial Review）、基督教科學箴言報（The Christian Science Monitor）等。他們提供的圖片和剪貼畫以兒童身著民族服裝為顯著特色。1926年， 哈德夫婦和麥剋米倫簽訂瞭一係列童書閤同。從此以後，他們開始自己創作故事。隨著紛紛而至的創作邀約，他們又將工作擴展到插畫、寫作、齣版等各個方麵。著名作傢約翰·斯坦貝剋曾邀請埃爾默為他最重要的小說《憤怒的葡萄》（1939）製作封麵。後來， 斯坦貝剋的另外兩本書--《伊甸園之東》（1952）和《煩惱的鼕天》（1961）的封麵也是由他們製作的。
