A Taste of Devon introduces some of the finest food and drink produced in the county, and profiles the people behind them. Andrea Leeman ranges from the north coast, wind-lashed in parts by the Atlantic, through farmyards, steeply wooded valleys and uplands to the more fertile south coast with the South Hams and the Dartmouth and Salcombe estuaries. It's hard to think of any other county with such diversification. Brixham may be the county's major fish market, but individual fishermen such as Mark Cawsey at Clovelly, the Newton family at Beer and David Kerley in the Fish Shed in Topsham, tough out the competition. The author learned from snail farmer Maura Bailie-Bellow that snails become romantically rampant during thunderstorms, and breeded Mike Godfrey taught her how to avoid the lunging kicks of an ostrich. 20 mouth-watering recipes follow the trail of the freshest of fish, superb lamb, beef and pork and excellent vegetables. Compnaion volume to A Taste of Somerset .
