评分對19世紀歐洲國關史相當精彩的分析，當信任和妥協的空間被恐懼和妄想所替代，大國協調下的“長和平”就此壽終正寢。可貴之處在於作者避免瞭任何簡單化的決定論，始終不厭其煩提醒讀者：此刻並非通嚮未來災難不可挽迴的轉摺點，始終存在著轉圜和靈活應變的可能。PS：作者似乎相當精通法語，而對德語就不大在行，例證是好多曆史人物的法語陳述都被原封不動搬到文中，並且不附帶英文翻譯，而德文統統都是翻譯成英語後的版本，讀起來免不瞭要一直開啓google翻譯。更堅定瞭我今後學法語的信念。
