i loved this book!

Wilson对于joblessness这个variable的分析和重视在今天看来诚然是不够全面的，只限于芝加哥一个城市也让人质疑其理论普世性，而且令我感到诧异的是他完全没有提到芝加哥强大的party machine对于构建isolated innercity communities的作用。Massey对他的理论是很好的补充和挑战。但无论怎么讲，这本书是后世学者怎么也绕不开的seminal work，其也对里根时期由Murray为首的保守派领头的对于welfare state的攻击和 personal responsibility的重视做出了极好的回击。

Geyser University Professor at Harvard University and director of the Joblessness and Urban Poverty Research Program and the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy. He is the author of numerous publications, including The Declining Significance of Race, and The Truly Disadvantaged, both published by the University of Chicago Press.
