Based on a long-term study of the policies of several European nations towards lone mothers, this book reveals the contrasting attitudes in today's Europe towards lone mothers, and how they have been treated and categorized. The contributors also examine the role of men as both carers and cash-providers. How 'special' are the problems of lone mothers, or are they just victims of wider social problems such as unemployment and so forth, are other issues that are focused on by the contributors.
