"The Jesuit Relations" is a 73 volume library of French Jesuit missionaries' perspectives on Native North America in the 17th century. Due to the vastness of the collection, these documents, important in telling the story of early American encounters, have been virtually inaccessible. Allan Greer has culled a collection with an introductory background on the Jesuits, the Natives, and their cohabitation in early North America. This is a resource of journal entries by such missionaries as Paul LeJeune, Jean de Brebeuf, Isaac Jogues, Jacques Marquette, and about the daily habits and spirituality of the Huron, Algonquin, Iroquois and Montagnais peoples. Students will also find natural history, ethnographic details, and travel diction in these firsthand accounts of early American history.
