前后花了半年看完。最后10%边听着Oblivion的原声边读，音乐起伏和剧情走向无缝衔接，激动难抑。在这个黑暗的角落，兽性、人性、神性交织错综，这些detectives边插科打诨用黑色幽默抵抗生命之脆弱人性之邪恶人生之无意义，边坚持不懈在重重官僚下做了他们认为应该做的事情，和火线里那句A man's gotta have a code一样，叫人起敬。Luckily, it was David Simon who told their story. 此致，敬礼。

终于在2015读完了这本书！David Simon is a brilliant writer. 三观特别现实，笔触细腻，时不时的黑色幽默令人捧腹。难怪是能写出 The Wire 的大神啊！这书里的警局没the wire里黑暗，读了详尽的后记以后了解了更多context。如果说 The Wire 讲的是 institutional inhumanity, 这本书讲的是在这个疯狂世界里那么一些性格各异的个体 work on their duty. "Honorable lives spent in service of a lost cause." 除此以外，庭审纪实的部分读来又紧张又满足，不逊于任何一部影视的法庭戏。写验尸过程的部分冷静而详尽。虽然不是很快能读完的书，但不能更有收获。

大卫·西蒙（Simon D.），美国著名电视剧监制、编剧及作家。前《巴尔的摩太阳报》记者。他的纪实小说《凶年》荣获1992年度爱伦坡纪实犯罪小说奖。根据《凶年》改编的《凶案组：街头生活》和《火线》都成为了经典剧集，被誉为美剧黄金时代的代表作，彰显了美剧在文学性及社会批评方面的可能性。
