Sarcastic, ruthlessly self-referential. Unexpected flashes of wit -- sometimes dulled by the banal as well. Subject matter reminds me of Carver but they're definitely very different types of people. Where Bukowski's deliberately brazenly cantankerous Carver's always broodingly uneasy and restrained. He wants out. Bukowski makes of it what he can.
