Redheaded Nona Conrad has just come into the town of Home, Arkansas, to do some food shopping when she bumps into a well-dressed stranger who grips her arm with frightening aggressiveness and calls her by name. She brushes him off, but on her way home to the fishing camp where she has recently taken a job as manager, she sees the stranger again as his car passes her on the road. When she reaches the camp where her young sister and a family friend are waiting for her, she has reason to be upset. Simon Wright, the owner of the camp, has arrived and, with charm and authority, begins to order her life. Although she is attracted to him, she does not trust him, especially when he tells her that her half-brother Harold has absconded with jewels and funds from the bank in her hometown. Why is Simon so interested in her and her affairs? Nona is further worried when the man who confronted her in town tries to abduct her young sister. Are the men with whom her half-brother consorted now a danger she must face? And is Simon Wright really an ally or a charmer with his own agenda?...
