书是典型的B级片路数，着眼点很明确，主打的就是性和血腥，但并不走黄暴路线。Jack Ketchum有种神奇的天分，写什么都写的特别平静，不管是禁室培欲，还是食人族围猎，都写的直白又平静，残忍归残忍（有一幕是他写把女人倒吊起来，从clitoris直接剖到喉咙），紧张归紧张，但完全没有通常恐怖片里那种背景乐越来越急切、干什么都一惊一乍的感觉。这是Jack的处女作，初版卖的不好，还在公司的压力下删改了很多血腥场面、要求改结局，向大众市场妥协，不过到了再版，他就可以大大咧咧地在后记里全部列出来了
