Sarah Champion was born in Manchester in 1970 hitting her teens in perfect time to experience Madchester and acid house, going to The Hacienda for the first time at 15.
By the time she was 20 she had already documented the Manchester music scene for New Musical Express; had her own weekly column in the Manchester Evening News; run an indie record label and PR company; written a book about the city's music; and gained a reputation as something of a "wild child".
Sarah then became involved in London's electronic music world and travelled from Berlin to Chicago to Tokyo writing about club culture for various dance music publications.
In the 1990s Sarah Champion edited four bestselling anthologies of fiction for Sceptre and Penguin that became pop cultural phenomena with accompanying CD soundtracks and club nights. Her 1997 "chemical fiction" collection Disco Biscuits came from nowhere to become the UK's bestselling fiction anthology of all time racking up sales of 60,000 in a matter of weeks. This was followed by Disco 2000 (pre-millennial paranoia), Shenanigans (Ireland after dark) and Fortune Hotel (twisted travel stories).
She followed the party to Bangkok where she worked for Asian pop and travel websites and as a news and business editor for an English language newspaper for two years.
Sarah Champion made headlines in April 2004 from New York to Sydney when she was mistakenly outed by The Times as the infamous London call girl and Internet diarist Belle De Jour. In reality, she was splitting her time between San Francisco and Manchester where she was working for community projects - notably for UK community radio pioneers Radio Regen and street corner needle exchange in San Francisco's Tenderloin.
Sarah moved back to London in June 2006.

Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Acid House, Disco Biscuits is an anthology of new stories capturing the hedonistic spirit of the last decade - from illegal raves to corporate club culture. It includes nineteen anarchic, out-there tales of drugs, sex, dancefloors, dealers, police and DJs.
At a warehouse party in '88 rival football hooligans are united in Ecstasy. In the sweltering heat of a Mediterranean Island, things get very strange when a hypnotist is employed to brainwash clubbers. In a future Manchester, sinful dancing and natural-born DJs are outlawed.
Riots erupt when an outdoor party is busted by the police, the sound being sampled and amplified through the speakers. A chill-out club goes disasterously wrong, with the arrival of a psychotic ex-con, fresh out of jail. A drunken night out becomes surreal with the discovery of a mystery suitcase.
In Thailand a 'beach guru' makes preparations for a Full Moon Party. And chaos descends on a holiday jet to Alicante when a jungle sound-system begins broadcasting through the cabin PA...
