英國著名作傢。1932年生於特立尼達島上一個印度移民傢庭，1950年進入牛津大學攻讀英國文學，畢業後遷居倫敦。

50年代開始寫作，著有《米格爾街》、《斯通先生與騎士夥伴》、《自由國度》、《河灣》、“印度三部麯”、《非洲的假麵劇》等。2001年榮獲諾貝爾文學奬。

在微信读书读《祈祷落幕时》想起在单位图书室看到过纸书，所以去找，并没找到。顺手拿了《夏目友人帐》和《守夜人记事簿》。 几年前读过《米格尔街》非常喜欢，活生生的人生活在米格尔街，他们的渴望他们的生活跃然纸上，一直想继续奈保尔，一直也没继续。这次看到他的《守夜人...

在《守夜人记事簿》的任何一个故事里，中国人都不是主角，所以不必像主角那样形象鲜明、性格突出。他们是一类人，不是一个一个的人。 在奈保尔的故乡特立尼达，至少在他笔下的特立尼达，中国人永远是这副形象：勤劳肯干，爱干净，开一家小店，面包店或者杂货铺之类，养一群乖...
