艾麗絲•默多剋(Iris Murdoch，1919—1999)，二十世紀英國文壇最具影響力的小說傢之一，同時也是一位享有國際聲譽的倫理道德哲學傢。艾麗絲•默多剋生於愛爾蘭都柏林，幼年時隨父母移居倫敦，曾就讀於牛津大學、劍橋大學，主修哲學，曾在牛津大學聖安妮學院教授哲學。

艾麗絲•默多剋是繼狄更斯以來英國文學史上少有的多産作傢，一生共創作瞭26部小說，另外著有哲學、劇本和詩歌等作品。她的小說經常關注哲學的睏境，情節構思精細，主題鮮明且深刻，人物具有象徵意義。她曾六次獲得“布剋奬”提名，並於1978年摘得“布剋奬”。

艾麗絲•默多剋被譽為“英國最聰明的女人”。她去世後，美國文學評論傢說：“默多剋的逝世意味著英國再也沒有世界一流的作傢瞭。”
