本书由Insight Guides 新加坡总部主编Francis Dorai编辑，所有参与本书出版的作者不是个人居住在上海，就是与这个城市在某方面有着密切关系。

为本书定调的作者为Tina Kanagaratnam，她自 1997 年开始便居住在上海，经营一间名AsiaMedia 的咨询顾问公司。Tina于2003年参与本书的初版工作，再版时又再度受邀，在Abby Lavin, Rebecca Pasquali以及叶蓓娣的大力协助下重新编写本书。她走遍大街小巷，取得景点以及旅游小提示的更新资料，同时编写地方特色小吃与餐厅的推荐名单。

在2003年版中，许多由上海旅游专家所编写的出色内容，这次都已经由Tina重新修订。新修订的内容包括人物篇 (Graham Earnshaw撰文)；表演艺术与视觉艺术篇(Sheila Melvin撰文)；购物篇(Ceil Bouchet撰文)；以及上海夜生活篇(Lisa Movius 撰文)。

Andrew Field 任教于新南威尔士大学，讲授当代中国与东亚历史(Modern Chinese and East Asian History)，此书历史文化的章节由他负责撰写。

Patrick Cranley 为 AsiaMedia 的董事总经理，他居住在上海的时间已经超过十年，负责撰写有关商业经济以及建筑的部分。 Patrick 为美国商会(American Chamber of Commerce)的前任主席，也是上海城市历史发展内务协会(Shanghai Historic House Association)创始人之一。

大部分让人印象深刻且色彩鲜明的照片，是由上海总部的摄影师David Shen Kai以及Imaginechina相片行拍摄及冲印。
