From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2-A series of 12 disconnected， 4-line poems， one for each month， that relate different aspects of Amish life. Quilting and canning， the harvest， and a wedding are among the events described. Plot and character development are completely lacking， and even in the illustrations it is often difficult to identify the two children of the title. Amos and Susie do participate in some of the activities， but they are hardly major players. Good's sing-song verses are adequate， but fail to excite readers about this fascinating way of life. Even the barnraising seems static. Benner's brightly colored pictures are lovely when depicting landscapes， and the one for July's threshing evokes both the farmers' work ethic and the beauty of their countryside. However， the renderings of people are awkward almost to the point of grotesqueness. Overly large heads and clumsy facial features make the children look middle-aged.
