仿佛在讀民國時期的香港史... 剛從封建社會走齣來，在殖民統治之下靜靜有序運作。頂尖人纔倍齣，但這些人最終都選擇瞭移民留在瞭國外。影像資料豐富四處流通，藝術生活前所未有地發展... 好像CCP建國之前的世界描述得生機勃勃。這種包含個人傾嚮的作品我不是很愛。

The era between empire and communism is routinely portrayed as a catastrophic interlude in China's modern history. But in this engagingly written book, Frank Dikouml;tter instead shows that the first half of the twentieth century was characterized by unprecedented openness.
