This introductory differential equations textbook that is supported by Mathematica presents a convenient way for professors to integrate symbolic computing into the study of differential equations and linear algebra. Students first learn each basic concept of differential equations, and are then given an opportunity to explore the concepts further via Mathematica. Difficult concepts are explored on the computer, and while the computer eases the burden of complicated computation, the student is freed to think about what is happening, how the ideas work together, and what everything means. Mathematica is used from the very beginning of the textbook, and each theory and method is continually developed using the program. Further Mathematica information and exercises are available to the instructor on the Internet. The new edition updates the text to Mathematica 5.0 and offers a more extensive treatment of linear algebra, as well as many revisions and corrections throughout the text.
