Ernest R. DeProspo, professor and director of graduate pro-
grams at Rutgers SCILS, died of cancer on September 16, 1983. The
significance of his contributions to the advancement of librarianship
will long be felt, especially in the area of measurement and evaluation.
Through research, publication, consulting and involvement in pro-
fessional associations, his influence was international in range. Ernie
DeProspo inspired and guided many doctoral students, and he
sparked enthusiasm for the potential new directions in research and in
creative thinking and teaching which he believed the new SCILS to
represent. His zest for intellectual ferment, his vision, and his leader-
ship are warmly remembered and deeply missed.
