巴特那本是优美的个人体验谈，似乎也是继承法国essay写作的传统，苏珊桑塔格这本更丰富，除了敏锐精确的现象定位，捕捉与描摹，还进行视域更广的大众文化分析。最有趣的是，巴特好恶鲜明而又不加掩饰地掷出自己的观点，而苏珊桑塔格通篇采取了正说说反说说的写法。
