the calories these early people consumed were in the

dominantly of meat supplemented with roots, shoots,

berries, seeds, and nutsl Only within the last 100 cen-

turies have we reversed the order to become mainly car-

bohydrate eaters-- with meat as the supplement.

This dietary reversal-from a diet providing, on average,

about 75 percent of its calories from some sort of meat
