Ann Darr has published six books of poetry. A native of Iowa, graduate
of the University of Iowa, she wrote and performed radio scripts for
NBC and ABC in New York City. As a pilot during WWII she flew
with the Women s Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) testing planes, towing
targets and flying mapping missions. Her honors include a Discovery
Award from the New York Poetry Center, Fellowships from MacDowell
and Yaddo Artists Colonies and a Bunting Fellowship from Radcliffe.
She has recorded for the Library of Congress Contemporary Poetry
Series and for Watershed Tapes, High Dark, a selection of her poems.
She now teaches at The American University in Washington, DC and at
the Writer s Center in Bethesda, MD. She has three grown daughters and
four grandchildren.
