"What did I do wrong?" my friend asked me. Her distressed
phone call came during a time of painful crisis. "If God would
just tell me what he wants, I d do it. Is he trying to teach me
something? IfI only knew what he wanted...."
I understood her struggle. Many times in my walk with the
Lord, I ve experienced the same guessing game. You live a good
life, you do what s right, you try to understand and do God s
will, and then In the life of every man or woman of faith,
there are times and experiences that force us to ask, "What does
God want from me anyway?"
In the beginning, when we first turn our lives over to God s
care and direction, we experience a new excitement about life.
Things are going to be different---clearer, more full of purpose
and meaning. When we experience the forgiveness from sin that
comes with new faith in Christ, we re eager to please God.
Later, many of us experience an even deeper hunger to
understand God. Is there something more he wants from us?
We want to know him, to cooperate with his will for us. Maybe
