Secondly， it is an ordered examination of methods of designing and working such quilts， beginning with one-patch designs， then repeated block designs in all their variety， and， finally， designs employing a single central image. Underlined throughout are the artistic possibilities of the technique as a medium for the serious artist as seen， for example， in the intriguing colorwash studies done by Deirdre Amsden， a British quiltmaker.
