These bodies of water are more<br >likely to carry harmful organisms than chlorinated pools.<br >Facility Management<br >This section includes guidelines for both initial assessment and ongoing<br > maintenance of the physical environment where classes are to be held.<br > Whether researching the feasibility of beginning a program for young<br > children or evaluating bow to improve an existing program, the facility<br > must be assessed according to participants needs.<br > A safe, popular aquatic program for infants and young children<br > may require adaptations to the pool facility and/or equipment. These<br > alterations stem from the need to meet physical and behavioral<br > differences in the very young users of the facility and to maintain an<br > aquatic facility that is safe for this age population.<br > Facility Conditions<br > Changing Area/Locker Room<br > ~ Skid-resistant floor surfaces are desirable in all areas including aisles<br > and showers.<br > ~ Electrical appliances and outlets must be grounded and located in<br > appropriate areas.<br > * Dry, c6mfortable changing tables should be available.<br > ~ Sanitary crawling area should be available.<br > ~ Adequate garbage disposal, especially for soiled diapers, is<br > necessary.<br > ~ Adequate air circulation and warm air temperature are essential.<br > Note: If designing a facility, consider placing a toilet, hair dryer, and<br > sink at child s height,<br > Pool Area<br > ~ A system of securing pool entrances when class is not in session is<br > needed to prevent entry or re-entry, especially by a young child.<br > ~ A non-skid deck surface which is regularly cleaned and maintained<br > should be part of the area.<br > ~ A storage space for instructional aids and toys is desirable, as these<br > should be out of sight and reach when not in use.<br >
