This updated version of Jane Fonda s Workout Book (1981) puts more stress on the role of a healthy diet and suggests a weight-loss program high in fiber and complex carbohydrates and low in fat. A sample menu is provided. But, as with the earlier book, the major emphasis and appeal is in the exercise or workout section. The new exercises, which Fonda states are based upon the most current information about exercise physiology, are divided into beginning and advanced sections and include warm-up, specific body part, aerobic, and cool-down movements. They are presented with clear instructions and well illustrated by photos. Despite the fact that Fonda presents no original ideas for weight loss, her workout program is still popular and there will be requests for this book. Susan E. Holmer, Peninsula Lib.
