THE QUESTION OF REMARRIAGE Every time I conduct a divorce recovery seminarï¼Œ a few people always come up and ask me what I think about re- marriage from a biblical perspective. They often confess their own confusionsï¼Œ havifig met ministers who will re- marry no one who has gone id~rough a divorceï¼Œ ministers who will remarry some who have gone through a divorceï¼Œ and ministers who will remarry anyone who has gone through anything. The purpose of this book is not a theological evalua- tion of the many differing points of view regarding the right to remarry. Ratherï¼Œ it assumes that each person has come to a conclusion in his own mind that is consistent with the biblical revelation of God and His will for our lives. For those who are still seeking an answer to the ques- tion of remarriageï¼Œ I usually suggest that a person pray for wisdom and guidance in this area and talk at great lengths with his or her own pastor. It is certainly not an easy question to resolve. Dr. Dwight Smallï¼Œ now retired from the faculty of Westmont College in Californiaï¼Œ wrote the excellent book The Right to Remarry in 1975ï¼Œ an ex- haustive research on the subject of remarriage. The Recommended Reading at the conclusion of this book can provide additional material to aid in understanding and establishing a biblical perspective.
